Local Information

Knoxville is the vibrant hub of east Tennessee with a history stretching back to its use as a Cherokee hunting ground. Officially settled in 1791, Knoxville soon enjoyed status as the capital of young America's Southwest Territory. Its river access, railroad connections, and location made the city prosper during the 1800s and made for a great prize during the Civil War. Today, Knoxville is home to pioneers in industry, leaders in the arts, and traditionalists working to preserve its heritage. Knoxville's culture and history can be explored and discovered in its 20 museums, numerous performing arts venues, and its historic neighborhoods.
